Why I'm no longer using Anapod Explorer

In the past I've posted about how much I like Anapod Explorer, and Anapod Xtreamer, and have hopefully introduced several people to it, who hopefully find it useful. Unfortunately, I'm no longer one of these people. Why? Read on...

While I applaud Red Chairs' efforts to keep the project going, I'm not sure if Anapod has much more of a shelf life. Granted, it's a nifty tool (and it's a lovely example of how iTunes on Windows should have been developed), but it's losing ground fast to iTunes, based on the functionality it doesn't offer the user. For example, it can't keep up to date with my podcasts, and won't download them, and sync them to my iPod. It also can't offer me downloadable, paid for music, which is something I never thought I would do, but it's something I'm definitely warming to. So, if I'm to carry on using Anapod, where's the Anapod Music Store?

Also, the functionality for adding and managing videos doesn't seem to quite be there - the Video management in Anapod seems to have been tacked on to the Music management, when I feel it deserves a whole new section. In the end, I'm forced to load up iTunes to get my weekly dose of Ricky Gervais. I'd love to be able to say that there's room in this world for both iTunes and Anapod Explorer, but ultimately it'll become too confusing if I start syncing my pod with both Anapod and iTunes.

So, if one of them had to be left behind, I'm sad to say it's Anapod Explorer. While I really commend Red Chair for developing a nice bit of software, I can't ignore the burgeoning world that is the iTunes Store and Podcast Directory for any longer. I'm more than happy to have paid for the software, but unfortunately for Red Chair, I'm no longer prepared to use it.

This post is related to 4 areas of discussion: anapod, anapod explorer, itunes, red chair.

I gave them up too after about 5 years f raving. I use bootstraps media widget now. Anapod gave me too much grief about changing computers, activations, etc etc. I have two purchasd versions of anapod, and copygear/mac. CAnt use either one, and nothing from Redchair. Nothing. And how do you contact those jerks. They dont seem to understand that people have more than one ipod. Also it causes you to lose artowrk, creates duplicate playlists. Conflicts with itunes. Yeah, now I have an iphne, forget about it! Just wants to sync. But in windows the media widget is awesome. Very versatile.

I had to reinstall Anapod and it wont allow me to reinstall, so even though I am a registered (paying) customer I cant use it. Everytime I try to download 9.03, I get an error message with a code and it stops the install. Ideas?? I despise Itunes. If I have to use that, I wont use an Ipod at all. If you know how I can get in touch with a human at RedChair lemme know at hingerty@verizon.net It is Nov29,07

I had to conclude that Anapod Explorer is a RIPOFF!!! I paid them $29 for their software and the software would not even load on a upperended computer with all updates installed. Their installation aborted after 2 seconds and informed me that the Installer File had expired. It instructed me to obtain the latest version on their website with an error code. I emailed them several times with absolutely no response. Stay away from Anapod like a thief!! We have no need for such software bandits.

I used to recommend Anapod Explorer, but no more ...

I upgraded from a 30Gb iPod to the new 160Gb one. AE copies over the mp3 files, and they take up the right amount of space on the iPod, but are NOT recognised by the iPod. I have sent three emails to Red Chair, all of which have gone unanswered. I am very unimpressed.

Is anyone able to send me a member invite to Demonoid.com?

Thanks in advance.

Hey Craig, I appreciate your candid feedback on Anapod, it convinced me to think twice about buying it, and at least see if it works for my purposes to start.

Just download the latest anapod with crack (full version) from demonoid.com torrent site and give it to everyone you know that has an ipod. The only way to get through to these companies is to hit them in the pocket book.

Red Chair Software has declared Bankruptsy!
MORAL Bankruptsy, that is...

Unfortunately, Red Chair Software has declared bankruptsy and has gone out of business.

That must be why they haven't responded to my scores of email support requests.

If you get am email response from any of these email addresses, let me know. (Subject line should read: "Activation Issue")

cardinal@redchairsoftware.com, rouge@redchairsoftware.com, ip@redchairsoftware.com, service@redchairsoftware.com, press@redchairsoftware.com

Red Chair Software is a WASTE of Money!

What the hell is it with me and CRAPPY companies that are supposed to provide service, BUT DON'T?

We all know that the spat between Microsoft and Apple causes our programs to "not play together nicely in the sandbox", and some companies have developed ways to get around this. One company of a-holes, Red Chair Software, came out with the Anapod Explorer to rip-off the public under the guise of helping to ease the MS/APPLE issues.

When all I had was my one 3rd generation iPod, the software worked, and all was right with the world. Then we got iPod #2, and the start of my problems began...

Turns out, that my "3rd generation" software cost $25, but a "Universal Edition" was $30. When all I had was the one iPod, there was no question. Turns out, though that the one for 5 bucks more will work with "all of a family's iPods".

Why do they do this? One word: Confusion. See, IF you buy the "3rd generation" version and get another iPod later on, you are forced to buy ANOTHER $25 version. If you had purchased the $30 "Universal Version" in the first place, it would automatically cover the new iPod.

Why wouldn't they just sell the more expensive version, and be done with it? Again, CONFUSION. If you are confused about their product, they can sell another $25 version, then they've almost DOUBLED their bottom line. But the public wouldn't STAND for a company who marketed software that only worked with one iPod at a time. So they've got DENIABILITY.

Red Chair Software can say: "We've got one version that covers ALL your iPods." And LOOK like the good guys. But they're not. Part of the cost of software is SUPPOSED to cover "normal" support. RED CHAIR SOFTWARE DOES NOT GIVE SUPPORT TO THEIR USERS.

Each version of this software is SUPPOSED to work on WHATEVER computer you put it on. So, I've got it on my home and work PC's. Only thing is, THIS SHIT ANAPOD SOFTWARE FROM RED CHAIR SOFTWARE RECOGNIZES MY IPOD AS ANOTHER NEW GODDAMN IPOD AT WORK, THAN IT DOES AT HOME!!!

This means I have to BUY ANOTHER LICENSE from these a-holes at Red Chair Software - so this crappy software will work on my office PC!!!

Well, SCREW that, Red Chair Software. You burned me for $50, and that's all you'll get from me.

I've emailed them NUMEROUS times, and they will NOT answer my emails.

(Now before you say: "Gee BG, you're all "F" this and a-hole that, no wonder they don't write you back." Please know that I sent them 4 emails and a web form that were extremely polite. - AFTER WEEKS of not getting back to me, THAT'S when I put the BOXING GLOVES ON.)

To my readers: If you'd like to drop them a line, and ask them HOW they think they can continue to operate like this and NOT create a HORRIBLE REPUTATION as "RED CHAIR SOFTWARE - the WORST SOFTWARE ON THE PLANET", you can reach them at: cardinal@redchairsoftware.com, service@redchairsoftware.com, rouge@redchairsoftware.com, press@redchairsoftware.com, or ip@redchairsoftware.com (Or EVEN all FIVE!!!)

Maybe if they get innundated with the public's emails, they will reconsider their fraudulent ways. (Or at LEAST answer a few of their emails!)

I was incredibly happy when I stumbled onto Anapod - while I have several reasons the wifey and I selected an iPOD (new 80GB) one of the BIG factors was finding Anapod. I didn't want to install or deal with iTunes (having been exposed to it on other people's machines).

Here's my sorrid tale (with semi-happy ending):

We ask for the POD for Christmas - we're traveling to PA from FL, so I go ahead and buy Anapod (get our confirmation screen with the reg code which I save, and drop a bunch of MP3's on the laptop (along with the reg code). Figured I'll load it up when we get to PA.

Well, we weren't able to go through the registration process until we actually had the POD connected - so Christmas comes, we get a neat new shiney black 80GB POD - hook it up - now keep in mind we have super limited capacity in PA - Mom-in-Law with a standalone Dell hooked up to the net via a slow AOL dialup.

Well I wasn't able to register Anapod with just my reg code - it requires either you connect to the internet, or login to the "client area" and use your reg code and some other info to generate another code (these codes are like 8000 bytes long...)

I didn't have my password from the original purchase (too much going on and didn't think I'd need it) - no problem, I use the "send me my password" but it never comes (check email using the MIL's machine via a web mail interface). So I'm thinking, maybe my account is funky - so I send support an email - didn't expect much (but I was a little peeved about the convoluted registration setup).

I wound up going to Starbucks (needed a *good* cup of coffee anyway by this time), paid for a high speed connection via a T-Mobile hotspot, registered ANAPOD in 15 seconds - all is good (also surfed for like 2 hours...).

OK, so back at home a week later I'm thinking maybe my email address I used which is an alias was causing problems, so I send another (this is like the 3rd or 4th) to the support for "Change My Email". In fact, I send a couple or more.

So to this day I have never received a support email for my reg issue - no response to my password request, no response to my change my email request. Nothing - I paid my $15 ($20?) whatever, and have never had another correspondence with Red Chair Software.

It's a good thing the app actually worked perfectly and still does - just drag -n- drop MP3's and they copy of over VERY fast. No "synch" or things that duplicate music libraries - just a simple copy which I love.

Recently I put some video on for a flight - I used DVDFab Dycryptor to rip the couple of DVD's to my machine, then Videora to convert to a nice POD ready mp4 format (both of these are freeware apps, Videora has a pay version which rips and copies). The video was beautiful and really kept me busy for the whole flight - I opened the Video folder in ANAPOD and copied it right over, and added a playlist for the multiple files (so I was able to play all seamlessly).

I might for kicks try the Anapod support email again. I'll repost if I get lucky.

FWIW, "MGTEK dopisp" is yet another 3rd party app that comes as a WMP 11 plugin, and promises some kind of synch modes and whatnot, but probably is still a partial solution.

Funny. I came here from a search, trying to see if anyone had answers to the crappy video support in Anapod. I have exactly the same complaints about video management. If it wasn't for TV thing, and podcast management, I'd use Anapod exclusively. The TV thing... I rip tons of TV down, to watch on break at work or whatnot. It blows that you can't choose the "TV Show" video type in iTunes in a batch (it can only be done 1 file at a time, as far as I can tell), but it's awesome when you're done. You have a "TV Shows" menu on the ipod, with all of your show menus, and then the episodes within them. Till you connect your ipod to Anapod, that is. "TV Shows" menu - gonzo. Anapod and iTunes both still show the shows on the ipod, but the menu is nowhere te be seen. Don't get me started on how SpeedSync handles video files and some music files (as in "puts copy after copy of the same file on with each sync") I'd be willing to live with popping open iTunes to auto-download my subrscribed podcasts every now and then, and then using Anapod to SpeedSync music and video whenever I wanted. It just doesn't work that way, unfortunately. $30 down the tubes and the Apple shackles locked and tight. Bleh.

I think it is a bit early to right off Anapod explorer but in your case where you want to download DRM protected content I totally see where your coming from. This is not a feature I'm looking for, getting podcasts straight onto an iPod is not asking a lot and is a cool feature that Anapod should definitly include soon.

The thing that appeals to me is the transparency of the product and being able to maintain my mp3 collection how I would like on my PC.

I know what you mean. Personally, the biggest issue I have at the moment is the spotty support I've received to my questions. I've asked severla nd received only one reply which didn't solve my problem and my reply also went unanswered. Too bad because I really don't want to use iTunes because of how lame its librayr management is.
