The Year That Was 2006: Movies

The second part of my 2006 round-up is about my favourite past-time...movie watching! I started off noting the films I managed to see back in July, and since then I've managed to record my feelings on 67 films, meaning I've managed to watch a film every 2.7 days, which isn't bad going. Read on for the full round up!

Over the last 6 months I've rated 6 films the top rating of 5 stars, all of which I saw at the cinema. These 6 gems are:

  1. Casino Royale
  2. District 13 / Banlieue 13
  3. Jackass Number 2
  4. Lady In The Water
  5. The Departed
  6. The Prestige

The Prestige was my favourite (Magic + Chris Nolan + Christian Bale = Win), and will be the first one I'll grab on DVD when it's available. Two of these films could be classified as sequels (Casino Royale and Jackass 2), so it seems that sometimes they can be better than the originals! Honourable mentions should also go to Children Of Men, and Searching For The Wrong-eyed Jesus, which both narrowly missed out on the coveted 5/5 award.

So now, on to the bad films. There have been plenty of turkeys this year, with my bottom 5 being:

  1. The Wicker Man (remake)
  2. The Holiday
  3. You, Me and Dupree
  4. Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
  5. The Corporation

No real surprises there except POTC, I guess. There's something so horrible about that franchise - I think if I could come close to putting a finger on it, it would be the terrible, terrible acting from Orlando Bloom. We want the man who played Legolas back, please! The Corporation got the very lowest mark of 1 star (and a very generous one-star it was, too), as it was simply boring. Zzz.

The good news, though, is that we've got one of my most eagerly anticipated films coming out in January - Rocky Balboa. 2007 is going to be a top year for me just with that one release!
