The Dark Knight
The Dark Night in a conundrum, and it's a flick I'm still undecided about, twenty four hours later. If you haven't seen it yet, spoilers follow...
I felt a little bit overwhelmed by the film. It felt overlong by about forty minutes, and I didn't like the change of focus from The Joker to Two Face. We had one of the best villains in a long, long time at our disposal, but he was discarded to concentrate on a computer generated sideshow villain in Two Face. The whole point of this franchise reboot is that the story's grounded in realism, and the CGI Two Face really spoilt things for me. Why couldn't he have just been disfigured using makeup? A bit like Simon Weston on one side - that would be truly disturbing!
I admired the killing off of Miss. Dawes, and the subtle actions of Alfred, shielding Mr. Wayne from the truth about the true nature of his relationship with Rachel. The film eventually felt like a bit of a mess, as if there was too much that needed to be crammed in, when the Joker's antics on their own were enough to keep me happy.
