Riding to the Beacon

This map probably best represents what I've been up to today:

It's the route I took on a bike-ride today, which started off at my house, and took me all the way to the top of Ditchling Beacon. It was the first time I've been out on my bike properly (other than cycling to work), so I got to learn a few of it's quirks, and wear in my new saddle properly. The ride was over 11 miles, which isn't bad considering how little exercise I've done lately! No doubt my legs will turn to jelly come the morning, but it would have been worth it to spend an hour hanging out on top of the beacon, listening to a Kevin Smith podcast. I even treated myself to a Calippo.

As I said, the bike has a few quirks, in that a few gears slip on occasion, and the front suspension is way too spongy, but it's not a bad little machine. I took it down to the Marina end of the beach yesterday, and it did well on the flat tarmac of Madeira Drive. I did, however, get my bum covered in tar - it was Brighton beach, after all! What with me heading to the Marina and the Beacon, I've covered over 16 miles on the bike this weekend. Not a bad start considering I've not seriously biked since University! It's good to know I can shoot down to the Marina on the bike and catch a movie if the mood takes me.
