Pride

Pride was basically the same movie as Gridiron Gang, except it was about swimming. The lead characters took the liberty of crying in pretty much every scene, regardless of emotional content, which I found a bit...strange.

It did get me slightly worried about Terrence Howard, and makes me wonder whether the crying wasn't part of the film, and if he's just a very emotional and tearful man in general. I'd certainly be an emotional wreck if I had churned out 7 films in 2007, like he has!

The film ended with a montage of shots of the real Jim Ellis, which took the copy-cat stakes to new heights altogether; this was, after all, exactly what they did in at the end of Gridiron with Sean Porter.

Still, there's a nice soundtrack, it's got a nice 70s feel, and Bernie Mac is studiously impressive. If you haven't seen Gridiron, watch this; if you have, replace a football field for a swimming pool in your mind and you've officially seen both films.

Read more about the films I've watched on my movies page.
