Hello from across the pond
A few days before our Internet connection got turned off at the old flat, I decided to go crazy and move all my site hosting over to Dreamhost, a highly recommended American hosting company. Thankfully the transition was nice and smooth, and I've got a rockin' deal with them - unlimited hosting & unlimited domains for an amazing $29.40/year. Considering the exchange rate, that's mental money. I'll be able to do some cool stuff now, as I've access to crontab, tons of database storage, and a ridiculous amount of disk space. I've got a few projects in the pipeline, but whether I'll get around to finishing any of them all off is another story.
As well as this, there's been a bunch of behind the scenes tech changes which have been made to this here site; I'm now running the site on PHP5, which allows me to do a lot more fun stuff with XML, and have implemented a file-based SQL cache, so frequently run queries get cached and get served from disk, which really helps the page loading time, as well as the SQL server load. All things said, things are looking good! All that's left to do now is try to localise as many HTML references as possible, and things should be running at top speed.
