Evan Almighty
It's hard to enjoy a movie when a mother's explaining everything that just happened to her (surely disabled?) teenager, but despite this I kinda enjoyed Evan Almighty. Kinda.
There were some really rather subtle biblical references to be found within the mise-en-scene, and I'm a sucker for filmic subtlety, but that's pretty much where my enjoyment ended. The whole film felt a bit forced.
Bruce asked for the power of God, and was granted his wish, whereas Evan was forced to build an ark he didn't want to build. You may not initially understand why you didn't like Evan as much as Bruce Almighty, and it's for this reason; we aren't taken on a journey which we want to be on, and we aren't made to experience power, or fun. As an audience, and as a voyeur of Evans life, we're grabbed by the wrist, and forced to learn a lesson we're not sure we should be learning. It's a funny film, but it won't connect with anyone in the way the original did.
Movie Maths: Bruce Almighty + Clever Biblical References - Jim Carrey = Evan Almighty.
