10k training: physiotherapy, and flailing in the dark
Had my second round of physiotherapy this morning, which hurt a fair bit, but also hurt less. Explained to my physio about ultrasound weaponry, and he in turn explained to me how Kenyan long-distance runners break through 'The Wall' by trivialising the pain they suffer during a run by comparing it to the pain of circumcision without anaesthetic, since that's what happens to many Kenyan children. Apparently (and, obviously), getting the top of your willy chopped off without the luxury of Gas & Air smarts a bit more than running a marathon, and is quite a meditative realisation which allows them to carry on that bit further.
I'm back from my third run in five days, and the legs are feeling sore, but OK. I ran an extra kilometre this evening compared to my last two excursions, and did so in the darkness of Preston Park. It's dark in the park (oh, what a lark!), and seeing where you're going is easier said that done. I can now safely imagine how it feels to go for a jog as Stevie Wonder.
